Bergen County Court Appointed Special Advocates (BCCASA) is an independent, non-profit organization of professionals and trained volunteers who have been appointed by the NJ Family Court to advocate for children removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. BCCASA works to ensure that needed services and assistance are made available to these children while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes.
Currently in Bergen County, there are over 300 children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. These children were separated from their parents, siblings, friends, teachers and sometimes even their own belongings when they entered the foster care system. Bergen County CASA trains and supports volunteers who advocate for these children. Our goal is to have every child in a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible. With your volunteer efforts, a child may find a permanent home or receive therapy or other resources that are desperately needed. CASA advocates are everyday citizens who are able to volunteer an average of 15 hours a month. They conduct an independent investigate of the case, monitor the progress toward established goals, facilitate the resolution of the presenting problems, and recommend a course of action to the court.
